It figures one of these would pop up. I’ve been looking for an XL500R or 600R to base my street legal 3 wheeler off of for a while now.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

“No title” Craptastic! I don’t want to play that game in Illinois.

I’d love to find a nice 80's 500-600 xr... But this one ain’t it!

Love the classic craigslist “very good and complete condition”, just don’t notice that the shock boots are rotted off, seat is worthless, tail somehow got knocked off- oh, and it doesn’t run.....

If the title was in their name before they lost it, and they’re willing to go to the DMV with you, then it’s not a problem. I lost the title to the Roadmaster, the buyer and I went to the DMV. I had to pay for a duplicate title, and they had me fill out a power of attorney to issue it to the new owner.

That’s a good price, I’d buy it, but I wouldn’t plan on taking it on the road so the no title thing isn’t a huge deal.

I too want to build a street legal trike, I’m torn between an off road oriented one, or a street trike though. So far my dream is a 70's style chopper trike built around a Raptor 660 engine.

I’m told you may be able to register it anyway - in Vermont. Wherever you actually live. Do your own research, but this has been a loophole used to get some non-NHTSA approved Chinese dual sports street legal. Not relevant in your case, but VT doesn’t title ANY bike under 300cc. Buy a brand spanking new Honda Rebel, no title. Transfer to another state, “Oh, I’m sorry - VT doesn’t title any bike under 300cc, here’s the current registration, insurance, and proof of ownership.” Since it’s already road legal in one state, it transfers to the other, your local governments get their excise taxes, and everyone’s happy.

Not that I’ve considered this or anything.

That’s pretty fascinating!

I’ll have to check Iowa’s DMV on that now.
